x ray series

These works were created as part of the body of work entitled X position which formed part of the graphical section of the Visual Arts degree at UNISA. These are mixed media works on x-rays as base with printing, hand stitching and collage.

I have chosen to work with the body and body images, specifically the objectification of the female body. By incorporating anatomical and surgical references in the works, I aimed to comment on the dehumanizing of the female body. Although women’s sexuality is no longer a taboo subject, the question remains whether or not the blatant sexualization of the female body in the media is liberating. These days we are offered a pseudo-sexuality that is synthetic and cynical.
