About

Hanja Badenhorst is a Visual Arts Cum Laude graduate from the University of South Africa (UNISA). She has created a diverse body of work while working in her first profession as a medical doctor in rural South Africa. Her work is influenced by her daily exposure to the frailty and transience of life, and she finds herself occupied with the vulnerability and fragility of the human condition. In her profession as a medical practitioner, she is constantly being exposed to the unpredictability and brevity of life. She finds that this exposure deepens her experience and awareness of living in the moment. It gives her a more acute sense of noting detail in her subjects and her natural surroundings, adding to the richness of her artistic expression. She is currently exploring the notions of transience and impermanence, interspersed with fleeting moments of playfulness, disinhibition and escapism.
